The English Word That Hasn’t Changed in Sound or Meaning in 8,000 Years
“The pronunciation in the Proto-Indo-European was probably ‘lox,’ and that’s exactly how it is pronounced in modern English,” he says. “Then, it meant salmon, and now it specifically means ‘smoked salmon.’ It’s really cool that that word hasn’t changed its pronunciation at all in 8,000 years and still refers to a particular fish.”

Library of Michigan
42.73209° N, 84.56311° WPlanned to get library cards, and take a quick look around the library. We weren't going to visit the museum (mostly because we had other museum plans, which ended up falling through), but it turned out admission was free for Archaeology Day. We ended up spending most of the visit going through the museum, and watching a lecture, and didn't really spend any time in the library at all (other than getting our library cards).
Definitely plan to come back at some point, to dig through the archives if nothing else.

2020 Reading
I finished 36 books in 2020 (not counting graphic novels): 23 fiction, and 13 non-fiction (including biographies and memoirs). Five were audiobooks. On average I rated books 3.8 out of 5 stars.
